What is it? EACH WEEK in the summer my kids and I (and occasionally I will drag my hubby along) do at least ONE service project. Some big, some small. With this, it really is the thought that counts. We started in the summer of 2010, skipped 2011 (because I spent most of the summer in India), and just completed Summer of Service 2 in 2012.
Why? Well, isn't it obvious. Everyone needs to do service. But if you want to know what brought this on, you can read How It All Began and get a better reason. And because this is one of the main values that I have chosen I want to instill in my kids, so I thought I better start being proactive about it.
Also, because once I got this idea in my head, I couldn't stop thinking about it and the further I got into, the more and more ideas came popping into my head. And now, after our second summer, I'm certain there is never enough time to fit it all in . . .
But what will you do? There are SO many ideas out there! But here is a brief and tentative list of some of the things done, currently planned, in the works or that we hope to do one day soon:

- Have a HUGE yard sale and donate the money to charity
- Visit a nursing home, rest home, assisted living facility or whatever you want to call it
- Make doggie treats and visit the animals at the shelter
- Put together bedtime snack packs for kids at a homeless shelter
- Pick a trail or road side and clear debris/make it look nice, maybe a beach clean up when we go to Oregon :)
- Graffitti removal (although this is already taken care of in our small town, so we may have to go somewhere else
- Dinner for all the single ladies in the neighborhood
- Recycling awareness (this one is going to be quite fun, so if you are going to the Fiesta Days Parade on the 24th, you will want to be sure and look for us...)
- Help clean our church building
- "Flower Fairies"
- Birthday Bags for kids "in the system" on their birthday
- Clean toys and the yard at the Family Services Center
- Family night at the food bank
